Alberta In November 2003, Family Violence Prevention month in Alberta highlighted Elder Abuse, and as part of this, the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Network developed a public education campaign that ran on television across the province that month. The Network is made up of representatives from communities across Alberta.
National December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.
International Declarations World Health Organization (April 2002) developed "The Toronto Declaration"
"This declaration is a Call for Action aimed at the
Prevention of Elder Abuse: Abuse of older people has only recently been
recognized as a global problem. Twenty or thirty years ago, societies
throughout the world denied the existence of violence against women and
child abuse. Then, through community efforts and research, came the
evidence. As a result, the civil society exercised the appropriate pressure
for action from governments. The parallel with abuse of older adults is
