The Canadian Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse

Réseau canadien pour la prévention des mauvais traitements

 envers les aîné(e)s

The Canadian Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (CNPEA) is dedicated to the prevention of the abuse of older people in Canada.

This website provides information to raise awareness of key issues around abuse and neglect in later life and to assure older adults are treated as full citizens in Canadian society.

The website is intended to help people access and share information on abuse and neglect issues in later life, as well as learn more about what is being done across Canada to address this important health, social and legal issue.

Help us work toward a Canadian society that respects and embraces all ages!

Did You Know?

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is an  opportunity for individuals, organizations, communities and governments to recognize and build awareness that many older women and men in their community and around the world experience abuse or neglect.

The first World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was held by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse at the UN in New York City in 2006. The second was in Geneva in 2007.

Canada was chosen to host the 2008 event in recognition of the contribution that it has played to knowledge development in this area and because of current government initiatives.
